Meet the Candidates
We are excited to announce our nine candidates for the the 2020 Islamorada Chamber Board of Director’s five open seats. Ballots will be mailed on September 1st and we request that you please watch for your ballot, vote and return your completed ballot to the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce. Christina Steele* Ocean Dayz Retail Resort Group
Christina owns and operates a consulting firm and five retail boutiques throughout the Florida Keys. Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs in manufacturing, Christina has a background with businesses small and large nationwide in diverse markets. With over 25 years of experience Christina understands the challenges and successes from the employer and the employees’ point of view. Christina followed her heart to Islamorada and started a new chapter in her life in hotel retail. She and her husband Russ are residents of the Islamorada community, active members of Mariners Hospital Founders Society, and large supporters of many local charities. Christina understands the benefits and challenges businesses face. She is ready to address the issues that come forward with the Chamber Board and maintaining an outlook on the balance of tourism, business and residential, while supporting business growth and maintaining Islamorada’s eclectic atmosphere.
Don Horton Island Construction Management & DHorton Construction Co.
Don has been building more than houses during his 43 year residency on Plantation Key. He has been a licensed contractor since 1983. He was a member of Class VIII of Leadership Monroe County (The Great 8) and served as Board President during Class XII. He served as the Building Official for both Monroe County and Islamorada for 15 years and has returned to his roots in building construction and consulting. Don was the Project/Construction Manager for the Islamorada Chamber during the construction of our chamber building. He’s a 15-year member of the Islamorada Chamber, a 20 year member of the Upper Keys Rotary Club and has filled all UKRC Board positions including President in 2008-2009. He is the Disaster Chair for Rotary and is a discussion leader for Rotary Leadership Institute. He currently sits on the Board of Directors forThe Florida Keys History and Discovery Center and is the Proud recipient of the coveted Islamorada Chamber/’lrving Eyster Award.” Don looks forward to serving on the Chamber Board and serving our members.
James Cordell Mariners Hospital
James is a South Florida native.. Growing up in Redlands he and his family were frequent visitors to the Keys. Similar to the majority of us living on our Island chain he developed a passion for all things revolving around the water, enjoying fishing, diving and just cruising the local waterways. He has been a Keys resident and employed with Mariners Hospital for 13 years. Current ly, he is the Director of Support Services for Marinersand Fishermen’s Hospitals, where he is part of the senior leadership team and oversees Mariners Wellness Center, Environmental Services, Dietary Services and Volunteer Services.
James is looking to serve on the Board of Directors for the Islamorada Chamber and will bring the same community-centered approach he brings to our hospitals. Change is inevitable and given our current state of pandemic, he believes he is specially qualified to help our business community adapt to the challenges, keeping your workforce and patrons safe while helping to preserve the quaintness of our Village of Islands.
Joe Molinaro Kitchen and Bath Specialists
Joe is a Coral Shores graduate, licensed certified public accountant and entrepreneur. He owns several businesses and practices as a CPA. Joe left the Keys after he obtained his accounting degree at FSU. He held several senior positions in finance working for Deloitte and AIG for over 20 years in New York,Tampa and Tokyo. In 2018, Joe and his family moved back to the Keys when they purchased Kitchens & Bath Specialists in Tavernier. Joe serves the community as a board member for the Upper Keys Rotary and as a middle school baseball coach. When he is not working, he enjoys boating and fishing with his family and friends. Joe is honored to be nominated as a candidate for the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Rob Stober* Hershoff, Lupino & Yagel, LLP.
RobStoberisa Partner at Hershoff, Lupino & Yagel, LLP and isa 1996 graduate of the University of Miami Law School. Prior to moving to the Keys, Rob worked for a large insurance company, which he doesn’t really miss much. Rob, his wife Claudia,their two girls,a Labrador retriever and a bunny live on Plantation Key. When not consumed with civic, social and charitable organizations, Rob and Claudia can be found out with friends or maybe on the water. They absolutely love being involved in this community and could not imagine calling anywhere else “home.” Rob has thirteen years of service on the Chamber Board and has twice held the positions of President Elect, President, Secretary and Past President.
Sara Stanczyk* Bud N’ Mary’s Marina
Sara is a born and raised “conch” or Florida Keys native,and currently resides in Islamorada with husband and charter boat captain, Nick Stanczyk, and their daughter Sadie. They are expecting a second daughter this coming December. Afull-time mom and a licensed chartercaptain,Sara runs lobsterand crabbing tours during the seasons. She also works at Bud n’ Mary’s Marina managing the outfitters store, website, and their online social media. Sara enjoys the outdoors and all water related activities, and the beauty of the Keys. She’s enjoying a new chapter in her life, raising her family here in this special place we call paradise and home.
Sara enjoys a challenge and performs confidently in the mostly male-dominated fishing industry in which she works. She looks forward to serving on the board of directors for the chamber for another term and is happy to be a bigger part of our great community, help promote local businesses, and give back by volunteering her time.
Shirley Wilson* Two Oceans Digital
Shirley Wilson is excited to be seeking re-election for the 2020 Islamorada Chamber Board of Directors. She has served on the Board for four terms (8 years) and was twice the recipient of the Ambassador of the Year Award. Currently employed as a Senior Digital Marketing Strategist at Two Oceans Digital, she works with local businesses to increase their exposure in today’s digital world through innovative website design,social media and online advertising. Shirley has been living and working in Islamorada for 15 years and is married to Captain Ted Wilson, a veteran backcountry fishing guide and also a Chamber member. The two have a 13-year-old daughter named Ali Beth who also serves the organization as a Junior Chamber Ambassador. If re-elected to the Board, Shirley is passionate about supporting our membership through challenging times and making a positive difference in the Islamorada business community.
Titus Rennie Monifi Technology
Titus was born in Pennsylvania and raised in West Texas. His fascination with computers began at age 10 when he bought his first computer with money earned from mowing lawns. He has been working with computers ever since, going from networking an engineering office at age 16 to Manager of Information Systems and CAD Manager at age 18. In 2015, he founded Monifi Technology Group and has grown from a one-man operation to one of the largest IT Management companies in the Keys with offices from Key Largo to Key West. It is his wife, Amanda, and four children,Ti,AJ,Talon, and Alexa, however, who complete his life. Helping others is what he does and what he enjoys. Vote for Titus for the Chamber Board to add a slice of passion and technology to the team.
Trinity Van Steen burg Keys Planning and Events & Caribbean Catering and Rentals
Trinity is the owner of Keys Planning and Events and Caribbean Catering and Rentals. She grew up living primarily in Naples/Fort Myers but spent the weekends here since 1988. In 2008 love is what finally got her to be a full-time resident here inTavernier. Trinity and her fiance have two sons,Joey 12,and Colton 7. Trinity loves helping start businesses and loves motivating individuals within themselves. She donates a lot of her time to her children’s school doing fundraising, classroom sponsorships, and her favorite “catering” the Thanksgiving Dinner for 1st grade and the teachers. She also loves to donate time to the local events throughout the community, last year she served as an ambassador to the Chamber and would love the opportunity to give even more to the community, by serving on your board.
